Ingredients:
- 200g of red lentils
- 1 medium onion
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 inch piece of ginger
- 2 medium tomatoes
- 1 green chili
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing
- 400ml of water

Instructions:
- After that, wash the red lentils with cold water in order that the water gets clear. Set aside.
- In a pot, to a medium heat, add the vegetable oil. Then add cumin seeds and after they pop for a few seconds.
- Put chopped onion, garlic, ginger and green chili to the pot. Stir until the onion turns to a clear or slightly brown color.
- Chop tomatoes, add to the food and mix well. Cook until they soften.
- Mix turmeric powder and coriander powder and sauté for one more minute until the aroma arises.
- Pour in the rinsed lentils and water and season with salt and bring to boil. Lower heat and let the lentils cook until tender, for roughly 15-20 minutes.
- Stir every once in awhile and add some more water depend on what type of thickness you like for your gravy.
- After that, it should be served hot accompanied by fresh coriander leaves.
