Indian Dhal Curry

Ingredients:

  • 200g of red lentils
  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 inch piece of ginger
  • 2 medium tomatoes
  • 1 green chili
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing
  • 400ml of water

Kitchen Tools Needed:

  • Pot
  • Stirring Spoon
  • Chopping Board
  • Knife
  • Measuring Cups

Instructions:

  • After that, wash the red lentils with cold water in order that the water gets clear. Set aside.

     

  • In a pot, to a medium heat, add the vegetable oil. Then add cumin seeds and after they pop for a few seconds.

     

  • Put chopped onion, garlic, ginger and green chili to the pot. Stir until the onion turns to a clear or slightly brown color.
  • Chop tomatoes, add to the food and mix well. Cook until they soften.

     

  • Mix turmeric powder and coriander powder and sauté for one more minute until the aroma arises.

     

  • Pour in the rinsed lentils and water and season with salt and bring to boil. Lower heat and let the lentils cook until tender, for roughly 15-20 minutes.

     

  • Stir every once in awhile and add some more water depend on what type of thickness you like for your gravy.

     

  • After that, it should be served hot accompanied by fresh coriander leaves.
