A team of officers (23) of the Colombo Special Task Force (STF) arrested a suspect (23) on suspicion of possessing 23 kilograms and 155 grams of heroin while hiding in a bush in the Kosgoda Takaran Wadiya area in the Southern Province on the night of the 12th.
The stock of heroin in polythene bags is the largest stock found in the Southern Province with a market value of around Rs. 240 million, the officials said.
It is suspected that the heroin may have been part of a consignment that had been smuggled into the country earlier. Officials say.
The raid was carried out by a team of STF officers led by the Commanding Officer of the STF, Senior DIG Waruna Jayasundara and was handed over to the Colombo Narcotics Bureau today (13).
